Use Clect To Have Your Best Wizard World Experience Ever

We’ve been talking a lot about all the activities the Clect team has planned for Wizard World Chicago 2016 and we look forward to meeting lots of Clectas while we’re there.  In fact, our last blog post provides a nice overview of all the activities we have planned.

But for members of the pop culture collecting community, the more important question is this: how can I use Clect to make this comic-con my best yet? In short, can Clect help me Con Better?

Like most collectors and Con-goers, I’ve tried every possible system to pre-plan my Con and keep track of everything I want to see, do and buy.  I’ve created spreadsheets, 3-ring binders, note pads, printed lists, digital lists…you name it, I’ve probably tried it.  And if you’re anything like me, I have yet to find the perfect system.  While we’re not saying Clect is perfect, our visual card and pack system makes it easy to organize your Con plan in advance.

Here’s a simple approach to plan your Wizard World Chicago activities.

Plan your Comic-Con with Clect

Simply create Cards of the events, guests, panels, booths you want to hit and add them to Clect.  To create a card, just click the + sign on the upper right of your Clect homepage:

Clectnaught-Profile-Arrow

Say, for instance, you wanted to make sure you attended the Clect Panel Discussion, “Collect Together” on Saturday (hint, hint).

Just grab a screen shot off WizardWorld.com or Clect’s social media and upload it to create your Card.

Make sure to fill in the ‘Story’ section on the back of each Card with the date/time/room # of the event so you have everything you need to know in one place:

2. Once you’ve created Cards for the events, autographs, guests, panels, exclusives, and whatever else you want to add to your plan, create a Pack with a handy name like “My Wizard World Chicago Plan”

Screen Shot 2016-08-15 at 3.33.36 PM

Then, simply add your Wizard World Cards to your Wizard World Pack, in the order you want them to show; alphabetical, by priority, by schedule…it’s your call.  Note: Cards can’t be moved around in a Pack yet, so be sure to think about the order you would like them to appear in your Pack, and then simply add them to the Pack in that order.

Pro Tip: Create a different Pack for each day you plan to be at the Con and add Cards that relate to that day only, if you really want to be organized!

Now, you have a simple visual system of your Con that you can access via the Clect app on your iPhone, iPod or iPad.  If you aren’t an iOS user, you’ll be glad to know we are working on an Android app that will be available later this year.  If you aren’t a tablet or star phone devotee, simply print the Pack off and use it as a visual check list.

Great, so now you’re organized. You’ve got your plan together but what about your “Want List” – all those comic books and collectibles that you are always on the lookout for to help you complete that title run, or round out your variants, or whatever.

Create a Wish List Pack

Every collector has a wish list and comic-cons are one of the base places to fill some of those gaps in your collection.  But visiting vendor booth upon vendor booth, digging through long boxes and scanning displays can take its toll.  I find myself becoming distracted and often forgetting what condition my AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #115 is in.

But seriously, why should I know that off the top of my head anyway?

The answer; I don’t have to if I create a Wish List Pack on Clect of the key items I’m hunting for.  Once I find an item, I simply remove it from my Wish List Pack, take a picture of my new favorite thing, and create a Card to add it to my Clection. Comic-con success!

Journal Your Comic-Con

Okay, so you’ve planned your itinerary and created your Wish List, now it’s time to enjoy the show.  Some of my greatest moments at Cons have been spontaneous and opportunistic. Clect can help capture those moments as well.

Sure, we are a platform for collectors, but collectors are also fans!

So after you get home from the Con, upload the pictures to Clect and create a journal of your favorite moments — your favorite cosplay, your new favorite vendor, that fortunate run-in with an A-Lister walking the show floor.

Create Cards from your Con Pictures and Share them socially from Clect.

Autographs you scored:

Celebrity Guests you met:

And things you didn’t buy, but need to add to your Wish List:

So, there you go.

Hopefully, we’ve answered the question, “how can I use Clect to get the most of my Con-going experience.”  While we’ve listed a lot of ideas, we’re pretty sure you all will come up with all kinds of cool ideas we didn’t think of.

After all, that’s what Clect is all about; our goal is to be your one central digital platform for collectors to organize, share, buy, sell  and trade.  We’d love to hear how Clect improves your Con experience at Wizard World Chicago.

Join Clect or download our app on iTunes.

And there’s still time to get your Wizard World Chicago tickets so we can collect together!

Till next time; Keep on Clectin!

Use Clect To Have Your Best Wizard World Experience Ever

Collect Together @ Wizard World

One of the great joys of being a pop culture collector and fan is the thrill of attending a comic or fandom convention.  We are fortunate to have a plethora of convention options today, from the locally-organized to the mega-studio PR events that dominate our social feeds every summer.  Regardless of which Con you attend, there is always a sense of anticipation and excitement leading up to the event; choosing what panels and events you want to hit, which guests you have to meet, and compiling your short-list of must-haves collectibles to add to your collection.

Wizard World Comic Con

The Clect Team is feeling that same sense of anticipation as we busily prepare to descend on Wizard World Chicago later this month. As many of you know, Wizard World is the largest producer of pop culture fandom events in the world, and Clect is fortunate to have a deep partnership with them. That partnership is key to helping us add more Clectas to our ever-expanding community of geeky greatness!

So, where will you find Clect at Wizard World Chicago, you ask?

Start by visiting Our Clect Booth:

We’re conveniently located right in the middle of the action.  Our booth is #118 in Premier Hall A (next door to the Wizard World Exclusives booth).  The whole team will be there and we look forward to meeting our fellow Clectas, so be sure to stop by and introduce yourself.

Need a more compelling reason to visit us other than seeing our smiling faces in person? Fair enough, how about this:

Meet Darth Vader Clecta Bill McBride

BillMcBride-Clect-Avatar
Clect is based on the simple premise that collectors love to Collect Together, so we like to feature members of our community – we call ourselves ‘Clectas’- and hear about what they love. This week, we’re featuring Clecta @BillMcBride, the Guinness World Record Holder for Darth Vader memorabilia.

1. What got you started collecting?

I grew up in a family that collected all types of things, and that collector-DNA certainly carried over. The Star Wars Original Trilogy was a huge part of my childhood growing up, and it was just a natural process to start collecting Star Wars toys at the time. (as we all did, I think). Darth Vader was immediately my favorite character, so I found myself naturally asking for anything and everything Vader. While I’ve been only been actively collecting as an adult for 25+ years, I can say my Vader “focus” started right there in 1977.

2. Why Darth Vader?

The easy answer is because I think he’s the most amazing, brilliant movie character of all time. I thought that the first time I saw him in “Star Wars”, and that’s never changed. There was more world class talent poured into Vader, than any other character in movie history. It wasn’t just me, he was also the runaway fan favorite as well, and we see that when we look back to the first vintage products that were being sold. Posters, patches, even the infamous “Vadar Lives” campaign from Factors. Just the sheer volume of Vader-themed items is staggering. When I started collecting seriously as an adult, I just naturally gravitated to Vader … I’ve never had any interest in collecting anything else.

3. What are your 3 favorite pieces and why?

1) Early hand made prototype 4″ figure from Kenner – this is one of the earliest prototypes known for the figure, and was also the very same figure that was used for all the early product photography. It is a truly historical piece in every sense of the word.
2) Prop Darth Vader Helmet – George Lucas Superlive – My collection has evolved over time, and I now find myself going after only original props and production items. Being able to find *any* Vader prop is a feat in and of itself, but finding a helmet is a once in a life time opportunity. This is another truly remarkable piece on it’s own, but it’s history is unparalleled in the hobby. It’s a superlative piece in every way
3) The original blueprint & color rendering for the 4″ Darth Vader figure (a two-for-one here, as they are a set) – these are the original blueprints and designs which
were used to create the Darth Vader figure. You can’t get much more historical or significant than that, and it’s an honor to have these types of items in my collection
today.

4. Is there a holy grail piece you still need?

My current holy grail would be any Vader prop from the Original Trilogy. That’s sacred ground for Star Wars fandom, and to own an original Vader OT prop
would be a dream come true. My other grails are closely guarded secrets 🙂

5. What advice would you share with other Collectors?

I think the holy mantra of collecting I would share with anyone is – “Learn, learn to be patient, and have the patience to learn”  So many people succumb to the “collecting bloodlust” and rush headlong into things without taking time to educate themselves, or having the patience to sort out good deals from bad. Especially in the Star Wars world right now … the market we are seeing is unprecedented in both demand and values. People that don’t take the time to educate themselves about the items and absolutely setting themselves up for failure, and possibly crushing financial errors.

6. How could we improve Clect for you personally?

I have a bit of a unique problem – I have the largest collection of Darth Vader memorabilia in the world, so the sheer volume issues from cataloging those items is staggering. (I’m sure I would need a full time assistant just for that)  However, what I think is the key benefit from the app is the global dynamic we are seeing with instant resourcing and information. We can’t carry around armloads of reference books and tools to each show and Con we attend, but having an app, with this type of content at your fingertips is invaluable to collectors.
